Any Given bender got the year off to a great start for Moe based trainer, Lenny Xuereb, by winning the Argyle Maintenance BM58 Handicap over 1200m at Mornington on New Years Day.
Any Given Bender was ridden by Liam Riordan who gave the five-year-old gelding an excellent ride out in front.
Riordan urged Any Given Bender forward and pushed to lead the field throughout before putting a bit of a gap on them just before the turn.
He was able to hug the rail and cut the corner to take the field into the straight. When Any Given Bender was challenged by Believing, he was able to rally and hold on in a tight finish with the pair three and half lengths clear of the third horse.
It was the third win of the lightly raced five-year-old's career who was bred by John Pratt, owner of Brooker Park.
Any Given Bender is by former Darley stallion Any Given Saturday and is out of the Danehill mare, Love To Rhumba.
