Nelsons Arch became the first winner for Brooker Park resident stallion Danesis, by Danehill and a half brother champion stallion Dehere, when successful in the first race at Werribee on Monday in the Better Solar Maiden Highweight Plate over 2000m.

The Charlotte Littlefield trained three-year-old was bred by John Pratt's cousin, Bill Pratt, and bother men got a thrill from the win.

"We have been waiting for this but it is magnificent to experience the thrill of his first win," said John Pratt.

"To get this stallion after his career in Hong Kong and upgrade a section of our dairy farm to dedicate to breeding horses and to get his first winner is very pleasing."

Bill telling Racing.com after the race “that’s an understatement. That’s magic. That’s a horse we’ve bred ourselves."

It was Nelsons Arch's fourth trip to the races and the step up to the 2000m really suited the gelding today after some lead up runs when building in distance.

“His horses are just taking a bit longer to mature (than usual), but they are starting to hit their straps now," added John Pratt.

“Danesis is fit and well and after covering about twenty to thirty mares a season since he went to stud, I am really looking forward to more of his progeny maturing and bringing up more wins.”

Martin Kelly who was on board for the race said the horse "was was a little bit keen and we broke the gates and I was a little bit worried coming around the corner I sort of got stuck three deep but I slotted in behind the one who I thought was the bait."

"I just let him take me into the race and I just hit the line strong.

"I had a look inside and there was nothing there and he was kinda inclined to lean in that way a bit and I let his head go and he kinda did that himself and he just found a bit more than the second horse."

Nelsons Arch is out of the Archway mare Cindy’s Arch who has a two-year-old unnamed filly also by Danesis to come and is in foal to Danesis again.

Danesis is by Danehill and is out of Sister Dot who of course was the dam of champion stallion Dehere. Australian breeder's may be familiar with Dehere as he spent some time at Arrowfield Stud in the Hunter Valley.

Danesis was the winner of nearly HK$6 million in prize money, that equates to more than AU$1 million, in a career spent with champion Hong Kong trainer John Moore.
